How Do You Like Them Apples? Or, Wait…What?

Well, as I posted previously, the alleged Mayfair tire slasher has been arrested. This is good news. And, as I mentioned, I hope his neighbors take the high road and remain calm and above the law.

But, aside from the utter senselessness of vandalizing other people’s property, the thing that caught my attention in this story was the bail for the guy.

Yes, the bail. It really ticked me off. Not because it’s $270,000 (he (allegedly) slashed a whole

of tires and misled police), but because it’s $120,000 more than the bail set for George Zimmerman. Yes, the bond for the man who shot and killed the unarmed 17 year-old Trayvon Martin was set at $150,000…and the tire slasher’s at $270,000. And, Zimmerman, we find out now, also raised $200k from his web site for his $150k bail and legal expenses.

So, Mayfair citizens, I am so sorry for the property damage, the headaches and stress, and expense the idiot tire slasher caused, and I hope you all can be compensated adequately. I know it’s not just financial, but also an issue of trust. I want justice for you. But, if a little perspective helps at all… think about the kid in Sanford, Florida who’s no longer with us because of something far more heinous and stupid than tire slashing; think about the horrible, unimaginable pain and loss Trayvon Martin’s parents must endure; and think about Sanford, Florida failed them during the initial investigation and now as they release the man who killed their son on $150,000 bail. $120,000 less than the bail set for a man who stabbed and killed tires.

About deb

Wandering and wondering - taking it all in -- and increasingly shaking my head. Who are we and how did we get to this here? And, what, where and how next? Putting what I see and think out there in pictures and always looking for other ways, hence, this blog. This blog, like me, is a work in process and still doesn't quite know what it wants to be when it grows up.
